MY NEW BEST BOY!

This is Andrew, the new baby boy of my best friend, her husband, and their two little girls. Andrew is a very healthy...very loud little newborn. But it's not every day that you meet a baby like him.

Andrew was born without the gift of sight.

His little eyes never developed while he grew in the womb and no one knew it until he was born 3 days ago. Sad I know, but wait. I was driving home from visiting him yesterday and decided that it was not right of me to think of his situation as a sad one. I realized that although Andrew will never see a tangible thing, he will see with this hands and his nose and feel textures and shapes like we can't.

His life will be challenging at times but can you image how many things he'll appreciate so much more than we do? We take so many things for granted.

I can't really put into words what exactly I'm trying to say but this quote pretty much sums it up.

“The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.” - Hellen Keller

Baby Andrew, you are so lucky. You have been given a great challenge but a wonderful reward - life. I can't wait to watch you grow and learn.
